Counsellor Profile

Martin Bullivant LL.B, Dip Soc Admin, Dip App Soc Studies, CQSW

In addition to my Honours degree in Law from the University of Warwick, my academic training as a professional counsellor included 2 years at Southampton University as a postgraduate student where I obtained the following qualifications:

  1. Diploma in Social Administration.
  2. Diploma in Applied Social Studies.
  3. Certificate of Qualification in Social Work (the Standard Home Office approved certificate in professional counselling required for all qualified social workers).

The following distillation of some aspects of my professional experience provides a guide to how my services could be of help to employees:

16 years clinical practice in individual and group counselling, both in the UK and Jersey.  Some of this practice was conducted in conjunction with clinical psychologists and other relevant professionals. Other aspects were conducted as a sole practitioner.

  • Counselling clients with general and acute social, psychological and psychiatric problems.
  • Assessing behaviours, enabling clients to gain insight into their attitudes, attendant actions and their consequences.
  • Exploring, (and where possible enabling) behavioural change.
  • Cognitive restructuring training (strategies for thinking differently).
  • Designing and running educational programs in the areas of alcohol and drug misuse, social skills, anger management, and various offending behaviour programs.
  • Relationship/marriage guidance counselling, conciliation meetings between divorcing partners, etc.
